Albinism-Associated Genes and Non-Skin Cancer: Bioinformatics Analysis of Relevant miRNAs

Announcing a new article publication for BIO Integration journal that reports potential molecular links between albinism-associated genes and several non-skin cancers. While albinism is primarily connected to pigmentation changes and increased skin cancer risk, its broader relevance to other malignancies has remained unclear.

Using a multi-step bioinformatic approach, researchers analyzed ten genes associated with albinism and identified shared regulatory networks involving microRNAs (miRNAs). Enrichment analyses revealed strong associations with breast cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma, pancreatic cancer, gastric cancer, esophageal cancer, and glioblastoma—particularly breast, liver, and pancreatic cancers, where supporting experimental evidence was strongest.

The findings suggest that albinism-related genes may intersect with cancer-related pathways involved in cell growth, metabolism, and apoptosis. Although based solely on computational predictions, the study provides a foundation for future laboratory research to validate these potential gene–cancer connections.
